The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995

In 1995 we saw the slightly rebranded GPDO produced. The emphasis is now on permitted development. This version replaced the 1988 version as well as the sixteen amendments made to it.

The procedural provisions were split off into a separate order – The Town and Country Planning (General Development Procedure) Order 1995 – you can obtain a copy of that here.

The initial order applied to the whole of England and Wales. However after the year 2000 the English version started to split off from the Welsh. As a result the 1995 version is still valid in Wales with various amendments. We have split this page below for both English and Welsh updates.

The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995

The 1995 version continued the growth towards permitted development. With sixteen updates to the 1988 GDO, the 1995 GPDO was much needed to consolidate these changes. With it we see a PD right for CCTV cameras. Many more PD rights were to follow with various amendments.

SI 1995/418 was laid before Parliament on 6th March 1995 and came into operation on 3rd June 1995.

You can view the original version here.

Amendments for England

There were twenty-two amendments of the GPDO 1995 that affected England. If you need to check for any legislation in the GPDO of 1995, you ought to check each of the amendments below to see if they had any impact upon the development right. Any amendments after the implementation of the development right, will not affect it. However in 1995 the Government kindly produced a consolidated version of the GPDO 1995 rolling up all the various amendments you view the updated version here. However this has not been checked for accuracy!
